You can see from the picture of the 2009 parade appearance that this is a different version of the Shoe Car than we've seen before or that we usually see in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Maybe this is the West Coast version? More investigation is obviously necessary.
Not too long ago it wouldn't be uncommon for you to see a giant bowl of chicken and potatoes being chauffeured down the street.
KFC (or Kentucky Fried Chicken for the non-acronym crowd) wanted to promote their line of "Bowls" (containing fried chicken, potatoes, gravy and cheese all in one handy, heart stopping container) so they decided to construct a giant version of the southern fried concoction and send it on tour.

Dairy Queen recently announced that to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their frozen treat the "Blizzard" they will conduct a 25 city tour of the new Blizzardmobile! Below is a behind the scenes video of the making of the newest product mobile on the road:

The National Motor Museum’s latest exhibition, ‘ProMotion’, was unveiled on Friday (March 26th) by Lord Montagu’s son, the Hon Ralph Montagu. The exhibition showcases a number of vehicles that illustrate the imaginative and fun techniques companies have used to promote their products over the years. The exhibit features European product mobiles like the Worthing Bottle Delivery Tuck, The Cadbury Crème Egg Car and the Outspan Orange. Accompanying the exhibition, a video wall presentation features images of promotional vehicles of the past as well as footage of the Cadbury Crème Egg car during construction.
